About Safran Films

Safran Films was founded by Mary Fowles in 2008 with the aim to connect audiences to the ideas, dreams and concerns of people we might otherwise never encounter.  A good documentary sheds light on dark corners, lends strength to quiet voices, illuminates beauty, and can profoundly change the way we see the world.

It was in this spirit that Mary set out to produce and co-direct Safran Films’ first production, Taxi Casablanca, a feature documentary, shot in French and Arabic, that journeys in the daily life of  Casablanca’s only female taxi driver.

Taxi Casablanca was first broadcast on TV5 in 2009 and has since enjoyed a wave of success across Canada.
