What if I Told You

September 10, 2012 § 1 Comment

What if I told you I no longer want to be a writer

Or that the garden scares me

And has all gone to seed;

That no one saw the flowers bloom

That the red tomatoes fell off the vine

and are rotting right now in the dark soil

I spent weeks turning over with a shovel

In early spring

What if told you I remember those weeks like punishment now

And that there was no beauty in it

What if I told you

I feel too alone in those places

Where the words come from

That I don’t even want to pick the blackberries

And instead,

I’ve been working on my tan
